Second issue hardbox from roughly 1960. This issue used the same dramatic box artwork as the original issue 'S' kit and is molded in the same colors - white, light wood tan and dark brown wood. Very well detailed and molded, like most early Revell sailing ships. Features full hull with display stand, detailed deck fittings and houses, separately masts and yards arms, separately molded belaying pins, excellent deadeye assemblies, lifeboats, Revell's superb preformed rat lines, rigging instructions, rigging material and vacuform billowing sails. The 295' bark rigged sailing ship was built in 1936 in Bremerhaven, Germany, for the German Navy. It was originally named Horst Vessel. The vessel was acquired in 1946 as a World War II war reparation. The ship was named the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, and has been used ever since as a training ship for future U.S. Coast Guard Officers. Eagle is based in New London, Connecticut.
