It has a reputation as a ferociously unreliable machine, the kind of thing that never runs properly and requires frequent and expensive repair. This is not really true, as while the car has as many electrical Achilles’ heels as a Grecian caterpillar, there are now fixes for most of them.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn unadorned form, it’s a visually striking car. The angular styling evokes the Blade Runner sketches of Syd Mead and accentuates how long it is. Black is not really the best color for highlighting the design, and Knievel would have his car painted its current deep purple oxblood color in 2001. This was not the only customization he ordered.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOriginally, the Lagonda came with a 5.3-liter V-8 that was good for 280 hp, despite being slightly tricky to keep tuned. Instead, Knievel had a series of Chevrolet V-8s swapped in, the last of them a massive 502-cubic-inch (8.2L) big-block paired with an R700 four-speed automatic transmission.
