Initially designated HSS-2, the Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King was designed as an anti-submarine helicopter for the US Navy and first flew on 11th March 1959. It has a watertight hull and outrigged floats for stability on the water, into which the main wheels of the undercarriage retract. An initial delivery of 255 SH-3A Sea Kings began to the US Navy in September 1961, some of which were diverted to the United States Marine Corps. These were used in the Vietnam War for search and rescue, as well as troop transport SH-3A, 151526 was one of these, which served with MX14 Squadron at Quantico Marine Corps Air Station, Maryland in 1970.
