The DC-3 was a fixed wing propeller-driven aircraft that revolutionized air transport in the 1930's and 1940's, and is generally thought to be the most significant transport aircraft ever made. United, American, TWA and eastern Airlines were all significant buyers of this plane. TWA airlines had a specific request that this plane have three engines, but Douglas managed to convince TWA's technical advisor, Charles Lindberg, that two would do the job. The DC-3 had a max speed of 346 kn/h and a range of 1300 miles.
