The Mikoyan-Gurevich I-270 was a prototype rocket-powered interceptor developed in 1945. Incorporating technology from the captured Me 263 prototype and experience from the earlier BI rocket fighter, two prototypes were produced in 1946-47, and the aircraft made its first powered flight in September 1947. While fast and with an exceptional climb rate, the I-270 also suffered from the extremely low endurance and terrible safety and reliability that come with the rocket technology of the time. With the maturation of jet technology and the MiG-15 nearing completion, the I-270 program was abandoned.
