About the plane: The F-86 Sabre is a fighter aircraft, originating in the United States, and manufactured by North American Aviation. First introduced in 1947, the F-86 Sabre is best known as the United States first swept-wing fighter. The F-86 Sabre could counter the MiG-15 in high-speed dogfights during the Korean War (1950-1953). The aircraft was considered one of the best and most important fighter aircraft in that war. Although it was developed in the late 1940s, the F-86 Sabre is also highly rated in comparison with fighters from other eras. Well into the 1950s, the Sabre continued as a front-line fighter in numerous air forces. The F-86 Sabre's primary users include: The United States Air Force, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, the Spanish Air Force, and the Republic of Korea Air Force. Over 9,800 F-86s were manufactured during the years of 1947 through 1957, making it the most prolific jet fighter ever produced.
