RAF No.230 Sqn, "Black Peter", Ceylon (Sri Lanka), October 1944

Coded 'P-for-Peter', JM673 was painted in a non-standard black color scheme for use in dawn and dusk attacks on enemy shipping in the Bay of Bengal but retained standard blue/off-white SEAC national insignia. Equipped with ASV radar, JM673 lacked a mid-upper gun turret in order to save weight and eliminate drag. The aircraft was the personal mount of Squadron OC, Wg. Cdr. Dundas K. Bednall and was lost while being flown by Sqn. Ldr. KV Ingham RAAF after Bednall had been posted away. It was watched on radar as it headed directly into a massive cyclone off the Ceylonese coast and promptly disappeared.
